The Best Dog Walks in Birmingham
Jun 29 2024
At Corkfield, our super pet-friendly policy means you can bring your furry friends to stay with you! But before you make your move, we thought we’d collate some of our favourite dog walks in Birmingham, spanning rural escapes to urban parks, historic backdrops and secret spots.
In this blog, we’ll cover everything you need to know about some of the best parks in Birmingham and on our doorstep in Edgbaston – suited for pups, of course – so you’re never stuck for what to do when time for walkies comes around.
Let’s dive in!
If you’re one for a bit of a walk on a weekend, then Barr Beacon is the place to go. It’s one of the highest points in the Midlands, offering unmatched, sweeping views across the city and beyond – making it a must-see for dogs and humans alike. You can choose a trail to suit you and your pooch’s ability, with a handy car park at the bottom so it’s easily accessible, perfect for when you’re both panting after a day spent hiking!
Woodland wanders
Lickey Hills Country Park is a favourite for us here at Corkfield and is sure to get tails wagging, too. It’s a stunning sprawling area of natural beauty, boasting everything from woodland, heathland, and even meadows. For you and your pooch, there are miles – and miles – of trails for you both to explore, with plenty of opportunities for your dog to sniff and you to take pictures of this beauty spot.
Lush lakes
If you’re one for lakes, Sutton Park – one of the largest urban parks in Europe – has lakes in spades. With several on its books, including a boating lake where you can hire pedalos in the Summer and plenty of space for picnics, this is a go-to for a game of frisbee and a scenic walk. Let them run free, have fun and enjoy the sun!
Historic hikes
Perfect for your dogs to cool off in the summer months, historic Cannon Hill Park is another Victorian park with a boating lake. As well as water, there are also plenty of green spaces where your pooch can roam free, coming in handy for anyone needing to let the dogs out: literally.
There’s a reason it’s called ‘Birmingham’s Best Day Out’!
A canal-side mooch
Sometimes you need an on-lead wander, which is where The Birmingham Canal Walk comes in. This is a great option for a leisurely walk, especially as it is beautifully looked-after and there are plenty of stops along the way for a bite of something good to eat and drink.
Reservoir revue
This picturesque spot offers a stunning, easy amble around the water with views of the striking Birmingham skyline. Although it’s suitable for dogs of all ages and abilities, just remember you can’t take your dog off the lead at Edgbaston Reservoir – meaning this one might be best for the second walk of the day!
Walkway wanders
This disused railway line has been given a new lease of life as a popular walking and cycling path. As such, the Harborne Walkway is a good choice for a long, looping walk – but just make sure your dog is alright around bikes and busy routes, especially in the summer months. Despite this, there’s also plenty of lush green spaces that are sure to become a firm favourite with all kinds of pooches.
Once you’re both thoroughly exhausted after exploring the best parks in Birmingham, a nap is in order.
Lucky for you, there’s no better place to come back to than Corkfield. Find us at the heart of leafy Edgbaston – just a stone’s throw away from central Birmingham – where you and your four-legged friends can enjoy stand-out lifestyle amenities, facilities and more – including a selection of luxury studio, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments.
