From sun-soaked days and perfect picnics to training loops and playing frisbee with the pooch – there’s no better place than the parks in Birmingham.

There’s plenty to choose from, such as stunning green expanses, carefully cultivated flower gardens and even a wildlife rich marshland just waiting to be explored. Plus, it’s all on your doorstep at Corkfield.

To help you get the most out of the stunning parks on offer in and around Birmingham, our resident Neighbourhood experts are here to give you the full lowdown on the best places to walk, run and have a kickabout.

In this guide, we’ll touch on some of our favourites – making this a handy piece to bookmark, screenshot or just keep in your back pocket for a sunny day.

Birmingham Botanical Gardens

If you love plants, you’ll love Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Boasting over 15,000 plants from all over the world, you can find this lush spot within Sutton Park – more on that later – with a bird collection, tropical house, a cactus house, and a temperate house.

Perfect for having a wander over walking, these gardens are a lovely break from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Moseley Bog and Pool

There’ll be no queuing at these bogs! Sorry, we couldn’t resist.

Settled in the middle of Joy’s Wood, Moseley bog is actually a collection of historical sites, including a Victorian ornamental park, clay pits, mill ponds and more. As such, it’s a great place to spot beautiful wildlife and local birds, while learning about the social history of the place itself.

Starting as a prehistoric ‘wild wood’ untouched by man, it’s now home to a lovely nature reserve – offering a cool and shady spot that’s perfect for balmy summers.

Sutton Park

Located just 6 miles north of the city centre, Sutton Park is one of the largest urban parks in Europe, boasting 2,400 acres of natural beauty.

Variety is the spice of life – and Sutton has it in spades. This park has everything from rolling heathland, mystical woodlands, seven lakes complete with boating, wetlands, and even marshes – each peppered with rare plants and wildlife. You can even discover roaming cattle and wild ponies as they graze on the land, making this a great place for animal lovers of all ages.

Attractions and sports facilities are also abound, such as the Botanical Gardens, making this a go-to spot for BIrmingham natives and visitors to enjoy all year round.

If that wasn’t enough Sutton Park has been designated as a National Nature Reserve, a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, making it one of the most famous parks in Birmingham.

Lickey Hills Country Park

Coming in at 524 acres, Lickey Hills Country Park is located 10 miles south of the city centre, offering a little something for everyone.

Known as a great place for fun family days out, wildlife spotting, school trips or just kicking back and relaxing with a brew, Lickey has earned a Green Flag Award.

With woodlands, heathland and grassland to explore, including a variety of geology on offer, there’s plenty to lock eyes on.

Woodgate Valley Country Park

Woodgate Valley Country Park is a 450-acre area of countryside right at the heart of Bartley Green and Quinton. Here you can find a rich mix of hedgerows, meadows, woodland, and small ponds, with the Bournbrook running through its expanse – making this place an excellent home for the 250 species of plants here.

For those looking for a natural beauty spot, Woodgate is a go-to in the summer. Hundreds of birds and butterflies can be found across the meadows, helping it make its name as an impressive Local Nature Reserve.

Kings Heath Park

As the first urban park in Birmingham to reach ‘Green Flag Status’, Kings Heath is one of the smaller locations on our list – coming in at just under 35 acres.

Nestled around a striking house and its conservatory, come here to relax amongst seasonal plants, stunning borders, alpine outcrops and even a refurbished pool area. A great place to picnic, Kings Heath also features a tea room, bowling green, plant nursery and two playgrounds – perfect for family days out.

Cannon Hill Park

A Corkfield favourite, Cannon Hill Park is a staple visit for anyone getting back to nature. Chockablock with activities, you can explore boating or even take in a show at the MAC onsite – a fantastic spot for culture vultures. You can even go to see exotic wildlife at the Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park or simply take a ride on the Land Train and see the sights – before soaking up the sun in 250 acres of formal, conservation and woodland areas.

We might be biassed, but we genuinely think that Corkfield finds itself right at the centre of the best places around, with Edgaston opening up a world of fresh opportunities.
